Day 1: In the morning we depart from Port Elizabeth and travel West through the Langkloof, “Long Valley”, to the Ostrich Capital of the World, Oudtshoorn, situated in the Karoo. The Guest House we stay overnight at stands on Mooiplaas, a farm built in 1867. After dinner we spend an hour Star Gazing the Milky Way and view the wonderful, mesmerising constellations that you can only view in the African Sky. (weather permitting although inclement weather is unlikely)

Day 2: Continue the journey and travel through Calitzdorp, the wine producing area and on to the town of Laingsburg. Also known as the second capital of the Karoo. Stop in Matjiesfontein, founded in 1884 by the legendary and energetic Scottish railway man, James Douglas Logan. Travel up on to the Roggeveld Escarpment to Sutherland and home of SALT, South Africa’s Largest Telescope. After dinner we take part in Star Gazing at one of the large telescopes. (not SALT as it is only used for research purposes).

Day 3: After breakfast visit the museum and drive to the edge of the Escarpment. Experience the magnificent view before we descend and travel to Prince Albert, a town at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains – in South Africa’s Western Cape. In the evening we take part in a Star Gazing Presentation before going to dinner (for your own account) then return for more Star Gazing.
Overnight Prince Albert Country Stay
Day 4: Travel through the magnificent Meiringspoort Pass to Willowmore where we take the R329 through the historical town of Steytlerville in the Eastern Cape. Established in 1875 and situated between the Grootrivier Hoogte and Baviaanskloof Mountains. This is a typical Karoo farming community town. Finally arrive back in Port Elizabeth in the late afternoon.
