19 Day African Dream Tour


Day 1: Johannesburg to Pilgrims Rest
Departing from Johannesburg we head east towards Mpumalanga. A landscape characterized by mountains, panoramic passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests. We will stay the night in the old gold rush town of Pilgrims Rest, a living museum of a quaint town dating back to 1873.

Day 2: Pilgrims Rest to Kruger National Park
This morning we do the “Panorama Route” where we visit the
‘God’s Window’ viewpoint, Blyde River Canyon and Bourkes Potholes before heading for the Kruger National Park. This is the Big 5 game country – exciting game drives provide us with excellent game viewing. Spot lion, elephant, rhino and other animals in one of the last African wildernesses. Early morning and afternoon game drives get us close to the wildlife.

Day 3: Kruger National Park
Another day in the Kruger National Park.

Day 4: Kruger National Park to Swaziland
The mountainous Kingdom of Swaziland, lead by King Mswati III, is one of 3 monarchies in Africa. Swazi’s are proud of their traditional lifestyle and cultures. Hlane is a home to white rhino, zebra, giraffe, elephant, ostrich, crocodile, wildebeest and impala as well as small populations of lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena.

Day 5: Swaziland
Another day in Swaziland.

Day 6: Swaziland to Hluhluwe
We re-enter South Africa and travel to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve which is a safe haven for the endangered black rhino. We have an afternoon and the following morning to do game drives in our vehicle and stop at hides and waterholes to watch game come down to drink. The first afternoon we visit a local Zulu village to learn about their culture, traditions and lifestyle.

Day 7: Hluhluwe
This day we travel to St Lucia Wetlands and take a cruise in a boat to look for crocodiles and hippo.

Day 8: Hluhluwe to Drakensberg
Moving further south to the base of the Drakensberg (Dragon Mountains). We have two nights here allowing time for walking along beautiful mountain stream paths, looking for Bushman rock paintings or just enjoying spectacular views.

Day 9: Drakensberg
Another day in Drakensberg.

Day 10: Drakensberg to Wild Coast
Passing rolling hills topped with Xhosa villages; we make our way to the Wild Coast. We stay overnight on the Wild Coast within walking distance of the beach. Dolphins are often seen surfing in the waves.

Day 11: Wild Coast
Day free to to explore the area on foot, meet local villagers and learn about the Xhosa culture or relax on the beach.

Day 12: Wild Coast to Addo Elephant National Park
A conservation success, Addo Elephant National Park offers a unique wildlife area, famous for the Addo elephants. We head out on game drives in search of elephant, black rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. Evening viewing at the floodlit waterhole allows us to watch the nocturnal animals.

Day 13: Addo Elephant National Park

Day 14: Addo Elephant National Park to Tsitsikamma
Indigenous Tsitsikamma forests surround the campsite at Storms River mouth, and there are walks up the Storms River Gorge and along the rocky coastline. There is an option of world’s highest bungi jump (own expense). Whale watching in season (July to November).

Day 15: Tsitsikamma
Same as day 14.

 

Day 16: Tsitsikamma to Oudtshoorn
After visiting ‘The Heads’ in Knysna, a town nestled on a tranquil lagoon we travel over the Outeniqua Mountains into the Little Karoo. In Oudtshoorn we visit an ostrich farm and the world famous Cango Caves. (optional extra – Cango Wildlife Ranch)

Day 17: Oudtshoorn to Cape Town
Travel the R62 through the Little Karoo towns of Calizdorp, visit a winery (optional extra), Ladismith, Barrydale, Ashton, Robertson through the beautiful fertile Hex River Valley and over the du Toit’s Kloof Pass into the Paarl Valley of the Cape.

Day 18: Cape Town
Visit Stellenbosch, for wine tasting. (A choice of Wine and Chocolates, Wine and Biltong, Wine and Cheese). Explore Cape Town and the
‘Mother City’s’ many attractions; visit Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope, Chapman’s Peak drive, the harbour at Hout Bay, enjoy the famous beaches and the V&A Waterfront. Optional visit to Robben Island (own expense). Meals at a variety of local restaurants (own expense). Overnight: David’s Guest House or similar

 

Day 19: Cape Town
We climb Table Mountain in the morning admiring the views over Table Bay and Cape Town. Spend the afternoon catching up on last minute curio shopping or just lazing on the beach absorbing the Cape’s sunshine.
Tour ends at +/-18h00 at your hotel.
